Hello all-
- I've just returned from a very fun and successful trip to Scotland and
- as some folks have asked for particulars I'll give you the scoop.
- I was lucky enough to be able to spend time with some of the world's
- best pipers while in the olde country, getting to stay at the homes of
- P/M Angus MacDonald, P/M Bruce Hitchings and P/M Kenny MacLeod as well
- as visiting with Major Gavin Stoddart, Jimmy Young and Tom Speirs. I
- spent a few days in Edinburgh where I got to play in the Castle at the
- Army School of Bagpipe Music which was pretty exciting for a yank like
- myself. I attended the Glenfiddich Invitational competition where I
- heard (and drank with) most of today's top competing pipers in the
- beautiful setting of Blair Castle. The following week I spent running
- around Glasgow pubs and curry houses, squeezing in enough time to get
- my Senior and Teacher's certificates from the Institute of Piping as
- well as puting in a bit of practice for the London competition. At
- that contest I was lucky enough to take first in the Open March,
- Strathspey and Reel, winning the Strachan Memorial Cup. A small choke
- cost me a prize in the Highland Club Piobaireachd contest. A final
- day visiting the Naill Bagpipe factory put a good capper on a great
- time over the water.
