Wicked Tinkers Meet Mr. Billy Connolly at the Britannia Awards Banquet.
OUR PIPER AARON SHAW, WHILE ON VACATION IN SCOTLAND & ENGLAND,
COMPETED IN AND WON THE
STRACHAN CUP
. CONGRATULATIONS AARON!!!
Here the story from Aaron:
Hello all-
I've just returned from a very fun and successful trip to Scotland and
as some folks have asked for particulars I'll give you the scoop.
I was lucky enough to be able to spend time with some of the world's
best pipers while in the olde country, getting to stay at the homes of
P/M Angus MacDonald, P/M Bruce Hitchings and P/M Kenny MacLeod as well
as visiting with Major Gavin Stoddart, Jimmy Young and Tom Speirs. I
spent a few days in Edinburgh where I got to play in the Castle at the
Army School of Bagpipe Music which was pretty exciting for a yank like
myself. I attended the Glenfiddich Invitational competition where I
heard (and drank with) most of today's top competing pipers in the
beautiful setting of Blair Castle. The following week I spent running
around Glasgow pubs and curry houses, squeezing in enough time to get
my Senior and Teacher's certificates from the Institute of Piping as
well as puting in a bit of practice for the London competition. At
that contest I was lucky enough to take first in the Open March,
Strathspey and Reel,
winning the Strachan Memorial Cup
. A small choke
cost me a prize in the Highland Club Piobaireachd contest. A final
day visiting the Naill Bagpipe factory put a good capper on a great
time over the water.
All the best,
Aaron Shaw
